💡 About this week

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is a nationwide movement dedicated to bringing attention to the pressing issues of poverty, hunger, and homelessness. Held each year the week before Thanksgiving, it is a time for communities, organizations, and individuals across the country to unite, educate, and take action.

This annual event serves as a powerful platform to challenge stigmas, share vital information, and advocate for policies that can bring an end to these crises. It is a time to reflect on our collective responsibility to support our most vulnerable neighbors and to recognize that hunger and homelessness are solvable problems.

From coast to coast, participants organize a variety of events, including:

  • Educational Panels and Workshops: To inform the public about the root causes and local realities of poverty.

  • Donation Drives: Collecting food, clothing, and other essential items for those in need.

  • Service Projects: Mobilizing volunteers to support local shelters and food banks.

  • Advocacy Campaigns: Encouraging citizens to contact their elected officials and demand policy change.

Join the national effort to make a difference. This week is more than an observance; it is a call to action. Together, we can build a future where everyone has a safe place to call home and enough food to eat.

As a special wrap-up to Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, we are excited to offer this additional volunteer opportunity supporting community organization, MATI-X. This event is focused on providing 100 “Dignity Bags,” generously donated by the Dallas Mavericks, directly to our unhoused neighbors.

This is a unique, community-focused volunteer experience. Volunteers are needed to help distribute Dignity Bags donated by Dallas Mavericks and will also have the opportunity to participate in an interactive bingo game, enjoy tapas from local chefs, and learn about MATI-X’s impactful zero-waste initiatives.

This is a fantastic way to extend our week of service, support a valued partner, and provide high-quality, essential items to our community.
